Cabin Fever?

I've spent a lot of time in the tropics. I choose the Yukon because I love what happens up here in the winter, and this winter was glorious. Cold, yes, but that's part of winter, last I checked.

The light is stunning. Back in the day, the bigoted art wallas called it Native Surrealism because they thought, among other things, that the colours used were, well, surrealistic. Lemme tell you about midday with the sun maybe two diameters above the horizon and all that key lighting coming through a gahzillion miles of atmosphere. Beautiful. And highly spectrumized, if you will.

Then again, some of my ancestors built the Alhambra and I like the light there also.

did you ever live in edmonton?

Of the 90 days of the "official" summer, we had a maximum temperature over 30 degrees celcius on 60 of them, and 28 of those were consecutive.

Even since March started we've only had about 4 days with a maximum below 30 and it looks like being the same for at least the next week. We've had about 30 half-hearted minutes of rain since October.

I'm sick to death of the relentless hot weather and can't wait until we get something that might resemble a winter.

Yeah, I got cabin fever, like big-time. And to all of those who live in warmer climes, it's not the cold that gets you this time of year, its the slop. This is "break-up" or the time of dirty snow and mud. Every dirt road is a quagmire and it's impossible to walk on the snow because the snowpack has lost it's base. Not that you would want to mind you, the snow this time of year is usually a nice shade of brown or gray. Why do I live here? Easy answer, the Great Lakes. I can drive to Lake Michigan and Lake Huron in less than an hour and drive to Lake Superior in about two hours. And that, to me, matters a lot.

Anyone else with cabin fever? I'm ready for some better weather now, it seems to have been winter way too long already. I need to get out and spoil some film in good light, or I'll end up panic buying something I don't need and will hardly use.

I'm planing to work on a few projects and seeing which fly, Village Cricket, Working Lunch (the English eating), Random Strangers (some street in colour), and Northern Monoliths (19c industrial architecture) are the working titles to date.

I would be interested in the Village Cricket!:) Like you, I just got started on a list of projects. Nothing like getting out there with a plan to get rid of cabin fever....

I sure did, Joe. For a while I played in a band called Blackboard Jungle and another called the Joint Chiefs to make ends meet. I flew for a commuter outfit out of YEG for five years before working my way back to the camera.

there was a group of photographers that exhibited in empty store fronts...gorilla gallery i think they called it.

but if i recall correctly one of them was a guy named randall adams...
