Cable release adapter?

I just recently stumbled across this among some other tidbits that I picked up years ago. It screws on in place of the shutter release collar. Anyone recognize where it might have come from?

I have one that is completely different, but I ordered it through B&H. Yours looks more heavy duty than mine.
