Cable Release for Vitomatic IIa

Hi there.

I just realized today that there was a socket mounted within the release button on my old Vitomatic IIa that allowed for the connection of a cable release. A quick trip to eBay shows that a cable release made specifically for the Vitomatic is entirely unavailable, so I'm wondering-- is there an alternate remote shutter release that I can fit to my Voigtländer?

Edit: I really need to start searching harder before posting a thread. Looks like most mechanical shutter releases have a fairly standard socket. Perhaps a generic release will fit the Vitomatic?

I think the cable release has been standard for quite a while, like 1/4-20 tripod sockets. I have a folder from the 1920's that has the same cable release socket that newer cameras had before the switch to electronic shutter buttons.

The vast majority of cameras accept a standard cable release with a slightly tapered threaded end. A few cameras, such as the threadmount Leicas and the Yashicamat have a male thread around the outside of the release button. An adapter with a standard cable release threaded hole is available. A few of these cameras require unscrewing a ring around the button first, easily done with your fingers.

Never heard (nor seen) anything about a proprietary cable release socket for those cameras. AFAIK, all the Voigtländer RFs accept regular cable releases, be it either those with the shutter release on the top plate or those which have a huge release button located in the front left (seen from the front) of the body. This also applies to the other Voigtländer RFs like the Vito, Vitoret and Vitrona in all of their incarnations.
If your camera was modified off factory in some way, a decent camera repair shop can turn it back to original condition. Would you post a picture of such socket? This will help a lot.
