Cable release for XPAN

I have an XPAN and have not been able to find any cable shutter release for this camera, although Hasselblad sell one for the XPAN II. I assume that one won't work? Does anyone know if there was one available for the mk I?

Hi snowwalker,

The XPAN takes a standard screw-in mechanical cable release. The socket for it is on the left side of the camera above the back opening latch.

It would be pretty dumb for a camera primarily intended for landscapes and therefore mostly used on a tripod NOT to have a cable release facility!

I have the XPAN 1 and just use a commonly-available Minolta cable release. One with the same threads that will work on Leica M's and Olympus OM cameras. These should not be hard to find.

Yep, should do. Looks like a standard screw-in cable release, and the Olympus for which it's being advertised has the same standard cable connection.

I thought the cable-release on the Xpan and Xpan 2 was different than the standard release. I could have sworn I read that on Luminous Landscapes or something, but it turns out my standard release works fine.

I have used a generic one for several years. Pay for an X-Pan one only if you have money to burn!

The original xpan release cable is an electronic one, I used mine with a standard one, one with steel thread and steel pin, and found that it had set off the trigger several times when is attached it to the camera.

Other than this, it worked fine but did get the occasional accidental exposure until I bought the hasselblad one.
