I just got a Leica IIIf. Very nice little camera. But is it possible to use a cable release on this thing?

yes you can, you need the proper collar type of cable release or just the adapter collar that can screw in a regular cable release .

OK!
I will look / search for the adapter collar. It can probably screw in around the trigger. I would have been surpried if Leica had not thought about this. The IIIf is my first Leica LTM. It has another feel than the russian copies......
No. 608317 is probably before 1950?

After 1950! Somebody with a serial number list can give yyou an exact date. And there are several variations, black synch delay dial, red synch delay dial, and with or without a self timer.

I believe it screws down INSIDE the collar on C and F series, while replacing the colar on the older models.

you can use the collar from a self timer, like the one from this item from that auction site.
item nr. 220381133173

I just found out that a Nikon cable release for the Nikon F / F2 fits perfect on the IIIf. These original Nikon cable releases are very nice. They will probably also fit a Nikon S3 etc....so Nikon copied also this part from Leica.
