Nothing is what I want
I am curious. If I am going to print black and white almost exclusively, do I need to get a screen calibrator like the Spyder?

I'd just start out getting a custom profile made for the paper your printing on, and see how you go. after all if your printing for yourself and not trying to reproduce exactly for a third party if it looks right it is right,

Yes you need a screen calibrator. Even in BW your prints will suck if the screen is too bright or dark or has the wrong contrast.
