The M9 is for smart romantics who know that it'll give 'em better pictures than a D700 because they loath oversize, overweight, overcomplicated DSLRs; and who are prepared to make modest sacrifices in imaginary versatility in return for a small, light camera with intuitive controls.
"Imaginary" versatility because all that matters is that a camera takes the sort of pictures you want. If it doesn't, you'd be a fool to buy it. If nothing else does it as well, you'd be a fool to buy anything else. Assuming, of course, that you can afford it, which is an unfortunately pressing concern with the M9.
Cheers,
R.
Don't worry Roger that post was half joking, the d700 is much better value for money than the m9 and has better low light abilities, but I'd LOVE to have an m9, and if I could afford it I would definitely buy one.
Though I have to say, my 5d is pretty simple as far as electronic camera are. All I use are the shutter and aperture dials, and the ISO button, with center weighted metering. Features don't need to be used - same for the d700.

When North Americans talk about class they're mostly talking about how much money you have. Not so with Brits.
To answer your question, Akiva, I think anyone who owns a $3000+ camera body has a fair bit of disposable income, or has made owning such a camera a top financial priority in their life, or is a fool.

Yep, "class" over here is a mishmash of income, wealth and taste. No aristocracy muddying the waters!
One thing we can all agree on: a D700 costs a lot less than an M9.

If the D700 is for the middle class then that sure puts me at the near poverty level. If Washington hopes to spread the wealth then I want mine!

I'm with you Greg.
I look a class as how someone acts not who much money they have. Respect, understanding, honesty, silly things. I've met some folks with lots of money who have none and met some other folks without any money with none.

Greg,
Washington only spreads wealth to those who already have it. What do you think this ism one of those communist countries like Denmark or Germany? lol Hell no, this is America, if you're poor you deserve it, goddamnit!

Arse beats class any day of the week !You want to be called middle class? OK: You're middle class.
The D700 (or some other DSLR) is the full frame digi for DSLR users.
The M9 is the camera for full-frame RF users.
Class is a lot more than income. Among other things it includes intelligence, education, aspirations...
Cheers,
R.
