The first thing I noticed when I got each of my FSUs was that distinctive smell of the leather. And the funny part is all my cameras were bought from U.S. sellers. I wonder if it's Bear hide leather.😀
Now go figure this:
An old Leica 1/2 case for the M2, M3, etc., is a perfect fit for a Fed-2 with no strap lugs... once you remove the big screw at the bottom that goes into a Leica tripod thread. Other than a very natural, mild and normal leather smell, there is no objectionable aroma of any kind from the Leica leather.
Cheers, mike
Hi Ully,
I happen to own about a dozen cases, half of them for the cameras I bought and the other half purchased to build my straps and use their flat superb screws. Not a single one of them stinks, nor those of my Iskras. That is the truth. Some of them even have a nice odor.
But I do remember now that in one instance I got with an Iskra a case with such dirt and dust inside, that i wanted to throw the whole with iskra inside on the head of the seller, for his contemptuos attitude towards a camera.
