Jan as in "Jan and Dean"
Yet another "which camera/lens should I take" thread.
This isn't a generic one, though. I'm traveling to Portugal in April and May and plan on bringing my Rollieflex as well as my Bessa R4. Where I need a little bit of advice is regarding which lenses to bring with the Bessa ( and an extra camera possibly ).
I have a CV 25, a CV 35 ( color Skopar ), a Canon 50 1.8, and a brand-newly acquired Summitar. I haven't shot with the Summitar yet, but plan on doing so within the next couple of weeks. I'm leaning towards bringing the 25, 35 and Summitar, but I do like the Canon. This wouldn't be an issue at all, as I'd bring all of them, if I wasn't vacillating on whether or not to bring my good ole Canon AE1-P, with 50mm and a 35-105 zoom. What I like about that is that I get a zoom, which I have to admit that I sometimes miss when shooting exclusively with a rangefinder.
So I have two questions:
1) Which of the lenses for the Bessa do you recommend, and
2) What is your opinion on whether or not I should bring the Canon AE-1?
Once again, the Rollei is coming, and so is the Bessa. I just need some input on the other things mentioned.
Thanks for your thoughts,
Jan

First, I'd only bring one or two of them.
Definitely bring the Rollie and as much 120 as you can carry.
After that, I'd say either the Bessa & 25/50 - either 50, both are in the "great" category.
Or buy (if you don't already own them) a FD 35/2 & FD100/2.8 to go with your 50 and bring the AE-1. Leave the Zoom at home. It's not good enough to put with the weight in my book.
Yada yada, my $.02 worth, HTH,

R4A with 35. The less choice the better in my case.

I was thinking that the bulk of the zoom lens would be a bit much, too, but that it might be nice to have one. The zoom is really the main reason that I was thinking of bringing the AE-1.
BUT, the reasons that I like rangefinders are their size, quiet shutter and lack of that annoying mirror slap.
Thanks for the opinions, gentlemen - they're just what I needed to nudge me to a decision. I'll just leave the AE-1 at home and bring the Rollei and Bessa. After I shoot the Summitar, I'll decide which 50 I want to bring.

Hi,
In your shoes I'd start searching for a hood for the Summitar now: as you only have until April or May.
