camera, new lens, no coffee

Here's a photo of my recently aquired Canon vi (that came with an incomplete lens.) Hereing my plea for help, not one but 2 forum members offered to give me their spare FSU lens for free! You can't find that kind of kindness just anywhere among virtual strangers! This forum rocks. Anyway, Joe's got a little reward coming to him in the mail next week for his generosity, though the lens was given without that expectation. Just out of the goodness of his heart. Publically, thank you, Joe!

It was really weird having this new camera for 2 weeks before being able to take any pictures with it, but that has now changed. There'll be some picture-taking opportunities for me over the weekend so I'll be able to give this rig a shakedown and see what it'll do. (I'm excited.) Thank you , Joe.

It's 12:23 am at this moment, and I've just gotten back from hearing some fantastic guitar music at the local coffeehouse. I went straight away into my darkroom and developed the roll of HP5+ I shot with this outfit. I was using the new lens wide open at f2.8 and a shutter speed of 1/60 second for the spotlit performers. The negs are a bit thin, but using a loup I can make out stray hairs on their heads so sharpness looks good and the focus adjustment I made on the rangefinder (infinity on the full moon in the sky 2 nights ago) looks good too. I hope to be doing some printing this weekend. I'll scan and post asap.

well it's 2 hours earlier here and i'm amazed that you went directly into your darkroom. i need some of that energy.

glad the lens was sharp enough to show the stray hairs, looking forward to the prints.

you've certainly got me looking at the vi model on ebay. maybe my 'p' needs a brother rather than a twin...

Joe, from what I've read on a few sites (the Nakamura one comes to mind) the only diff between the models was the simpler viewfinder of the P. Not really a big diff. I wouldn't pay too much more (if at all) to get a vi over a P.

Oh, after the performers finished for the night, one of them came over and asked, "Hey, is that an M6?"

The owner of the extablishment asked me for images to use ontheir website. I sure hope I've got something to give him.

As for the energy, I did mention it was a coffeehouse, right? There's no way I could fall asleep for a while. I'll pay tomorrow!

I tried it years ago, and found it to be very grainy, for a 400 speed film. I was quite disappointed with it. If you want a much finer grain, and beautiful tonality, go with Neopan 400.

APX 400: I only use it in 120 format. Years ago I tried a roll of 135 and it was very grainy. With a larger neg, it's no problem at normal enlargement size (to 11x14in.)
