What a concept - it won't let you take a picture of a scene that has been overphotographed. Instead it can upload an available one that has been done before to a Dropbox account:

Brings up lots of issues, including censorship, of course. But also, what about unique lighting on an overshot location, or a compelling and original view? How restrictive will it be?

And, as the page mentions, will you by chance be the last person allowed to capture a particular view before it decides enough? ;-)

One arrives at location, discovers great view and....camera decides, it's enough. How about personal discovery, about own decisions what to publish or not? Looks like those walking pants for kids, who aren't able to walk themselves. They can kind of walk with support but don't learn it themselves, naturally. Don't torture your kids with walkies, and don't torture your vision with this camera.

Hi,

Imagine what happens when you go to take a photograph of your wife/girlfriend/etc and it stops you and flashes up one she'd not told you about? Or a series...

Regards, David

Ha - a take that probably didn't occur to the inventor!

I don't really know what my response to this idea is. It's foolish in a basic sense - it's not as though space is in danger of filling up with too many photos of the Eiffel Tower. And as btgc says, how about one's personal discovery of a place? Why shouldn't you take your own pic of the Eiffel on the one and only occasion you're there?

But there's also something interesting about it - you never know when it might come up with an objection. That side of an old garage in a little town somewhere? Nope, been done 3 times already, and that's quite enough of that. But then you can see who did those 3 others; follow them back to Flickr and see what else attracts them. Are they really like you in some way, or was the garage shot a coincidence?

Or you try your Eiffel shot and the camera says no. Maybe moving to the side a bit, trying a different angle - will it accept at some point that you're adding an aesthetic to the scene thats worthwhile?
