I'm off to Lisbon for a few days in a couple of weeks, can anyone recommend some good camera stores - both secondhand/vintage and for new stuff?

Hi Terao.
Like Migtex said, Lisboa is not the best place to find good camera stores, well, cheap camera stores.
I buy all my stuff of internet stores.
But if you want, i could give you some address for second hand and new camers. But like i said, you're better off buying here or in internet stores.
PM me if you are interested.

No way are you going to find a camera store in Lisbon. I live nearby and would only ever buy from Robert White or ffordes.
But look into a fnac shop in most shopping malls for their photo gallery and fast film processing.

Thanks all, I just had this romantic notion of happening across a black SP gathering dust at the back of a secondhand shop down a side street
22% VAT, ouch!
Still, I'm excited by the photographic possibilities of the city, I'm there the weekend that Portugal play Belgium in the UEFA Championship qualifiers so I'm expecting plenty of colourful street opportunities. On that subject (and moving OT so please PM me) do you happen to know whether I could still get tickets to the match? I can't find an online sales site and I'd love to experience a Portuguese soccer atmosphere first hand...

Hi Terao!
I could not find either an online site to get the tickets. Information on the Portuguese Football Federation (www.fpf.pt) is not helpfull. I think you would not find difficult to buy the tickects at the stadium (Alvalade, north of the city www.sporting.pt). The stadium itself worths a few pics!
I am sure you will have lot of possibilities for shooting in such a beautiful city as Lisbon.
BTW, Pedro, I would like to know about those second hand camera stores at Lisbon. I just can remember an small one at Saldanha shopping center, but this was a few years ago when I was living in the area. I do visit often Lisbon, and would like to know these camera shops. PM me if you can (talk portuguese).
Regards!

Terao, be sure not to miss Bairro Alto and Castelo de São Jorge... the former gives you nice opportunities for street photography and the latter a historic fortress right in the middle of the old town. I enjoyed those places thoroughly when I visited Lisbon.
Will come back some day...

Terao, I was in Lisbon this past October-November. I couldn't find any good camera shops at all. Everything was fairly expensive by NYC standards. Better, as others have said, to purchase off of the web.
FYI Lisbon gallery - http://www.pbase.com/keithbg/lisbon&page=all
You will have agreat photographic holiday there. Lisbon is perfect for walking and taking things in.

Hope you have fun here in Portugal, a lot to photograph in Lisbon... unfortunately not a good country to buy photo gear. I buy most my stuff on ebay :|

Argh, just remembered: I have these slides from Lisbon hanging around somewhere. Gotta scan them and put them out on the net! One more reason to buy a film/flatbed scanner....

That old shop at Saldanha has closed!

The only one that has RF equipment is the ColorFoto at Praça de Alvalade - Alvalade Square (on the left backend side of millenium bank branch). But it's only for show. Not for sell.
you can check their web site www.colorfoto.pt .. so you can have and idea how expensive it is... and enjoy the Sunny Lisbon (it's almost like San Francisco light... maybe better!)

FNAC, Colorfoto or Pixmania. But I usually do my own shopping on the internet.

Take the train from Cais do Sodre station to Cascais. About 30 minutes along the seashore and enjoy Cascais, sort of like Brighton.

Well, i'm not from Lisbon, i'm only here 5 years now.
Good camera/photo shops i know:
- Colorfoto as stated by Migtex; But they do have used cameras for sale, mostly nikon vintage slr's and lens.
- Nameloja, at Centro Cultural de Belem, near the Mosteiro dos Jerónimos. Good service both developping and printing. A few 2nd hand cameras for sale, usualy leica and rollei. Lots of processing material... i buy my Rodinal there
.
- Distrimagem, at Avenida da Liberdade, when you go up in the right side is a bit after Hardrock Cafe, in a small shopping center, 1st floor - superb print job (a bit expensive). Never tryed their processing service. Lots of new cameras for sale;
For second hand cameras:
- a small street market at praça de londres (near colorfoto). allways a stand with lots of cameras. but expensive. The owner knows nothing about them but thinks they are made of gold; This street market is not everyday, last time i whent was saturday morning;
- a small shop near feira da ladra (our most important flea market). This shop has only used cameras and lens, from zorky, leica to slr's and medium and large format
cameras. I'm trying to get a picture of the exact location to post here.
- I know a mechanist or two that has cameras for sale, but they are so way too expensive....
Bottom line, there is 2nd hand camera stores, but they are too expensive. All of them

Ok, lets see if i can pull this out... trying to put the picture from google hearth....
The camera store is on the upper right corner of the picture, in the mark. The bottom center mark marks Santa Apolónia Raillroad station. In the center is Feira da Ladra, the flea market place (thursdays and saturdays i beleive). You can get to feira da ladra place by electric bus (number 12 if i remember) and is a very nice trip. Beware of thieves on that bus!!!!!
Hope that helps.
If you want more info send me a PM.

Last time I saw a RF camera at a store here in portugal, was at Porto in a store located at Bolhao market... a Fed 3 with industar-61! I walked in and asked to see the camera... Lens focus was very very very stiff, camera shutter was not working well and the metal parts had a bit of corosion... I asked how much for it and the seller told me 90 euro
that kind of price had to be for a mint Fed-3 and even then it would be expensive...
AHAHAHAHAAHAHHAAHHA
I almost insulted him!

They have no ideia, besides if you like to use a RF these days then you are a PhotoNerd from their pointview, so you must be rich (well they probably right if I didnt spend it on RF's....)!!

Hi
I found THIS seller on Ebolay. I never bought from him nor I have any relation but he seems to be in Lisbon and have good feedbacks...
Have a nice stay in Lisbon, it's a wonderful city, I've been last summer (there are some shots in my gallery) and I hope to get back as soon as possible.

Thanks all for the fantastic info, really looking forward to it. Its part of a project with my father - either he or I are going back to places he went to in the 60s, with the aim of trying to take the same photo he did 40-odd years ago
His original Lisboa stuff is here:
http://www.flickr.com/search/?q=lisbon&w=64031910%40N00
1961 or 62, shot with an Agfa Ambi Silette w/50mm f/2.8 Color-Solinar and some form of ultra-slow Agfa slide.
I have a vague idea of using the Agfa and teaching him to use my R-D1 - quality father time is important
