Cameraleather.com experience

Well, I've just received my leather kits. They are just flawless. The only gigantic flaw was the 200 days waiting time. Yes, two-zero-zero.
Morgan kept his word and sent everything without asking for any payment, so I kept mine and after I got the kits I sent him back my (his) money.
Bottom line, the guy seems overwhelmed by his business. He could definitely use more employees.
I'll be back with photos of the finished cameras when I have time.

For what it's worth, the material and the service from Aki Asahi are exemplary.

Seconded!

I've ordered several kits from Aki Asahi and always receive them within a week. The fit, finish and service is always perfect.

If you're looking for a Vulcanite replacement it doesn't get any better.

i am sad to say that morgan stiffed me this last order...i have been a staunch advocate of his for years and had most of my cameras redone with his skins...i love that grip tac...but this last time he never sent my order or answered his emails...i went to paypal and filed a complaint and got my money back...my m4-p is now wearing an aki asahi skin and looks pretty good.
i still miss the grip-tac tho.

turn of events...

in the mail today, my grip tac from morgan, with a brief note apologizing for the long wait...

My answer to all this is to ask: "how many pages of complaints have there been on RFF about Aki-Asahi?" Frankly, I don't see how any manufacturer could match or exceed the service from Aki-Asahi, so why go elsewhere and get frustrated.TW

After trying both, I prefer the handling of Griptac. I have it on a Leica IIIc and Autocord. Aki-Asahis offerings look great and are certainly fine but if neither of the coverings I've tried don't have as much grip which I value above all else.

That said, Aki-Asahis service and shipping time are excellent and I'd buy from him again as well.

Because 4 out of my 5 cameras I wanted to recover weren't supported by Aki-Asahi.

An update on my end too.

After zero replies from Cameraleather, I proceeded with a Claim from PayPal. They have since refunded my share. During this time, I too ordered from Asahi, and guess what? Asahi sent me my item within a week, and replied to my order within 24hr. This, my friends, is how a business is run.

Not being able to even respond to an email, is disastrous enough, but to collect $$ via PayPal, and not communicate is telling of the morals of this entity.

November 5th today - now 2 months since my order...

I Ordered a "VH Black kit for film back 12, A12, A16" costing $17.50 for my Hasselblad 500C/M on September 5th, it is now October 5th - one month and no reply

I guess I have a loooong wait ahead of me...

Unfortunately Aki-Asahi does not list a single camera I own. I have used cameraleather 3 times and never took more than a couple of weeks, my last order took less than a week. I have read on other forums about bad and good service, seems about 50/50.

Just a note to say that Don Goldberg recovered a Leica IIIc for me with a grey covering and did an incredibly good job. I don't know where he got the covering material from but he did say that he has his own method to cut the cover and place the screw holes.

My camera was worked on a year or two ago - I don't know if he still has the materials for the covering.

Still waiting

Still waiting

Nice to know some people are getting their stuff. It's been 6+ months. I've had great service on past orders, now I don't know what gives. No answers to repeated emails. Found this thread just to see if he was still in business.

I've also ordered from aki-asahi. Same day order confirmation. 9 days from first email to having the leather kits in my hands. So, here's a quick summary:
- quality OK from both parts
- Morgan lists way more cameras
- Aki-asahi lists some cameras Morgan doesn't
- Morgan: 200 days, emails, emails, emails, emails, emails, e... (mine, of course)
- Aki-asahi: 9 days, 1 email for the order, 1 for the confirmation, one "thank you for your payment" - job done.

Well now I'm having no reply from Morgan on a 28Ti he's got. Been trying to get him to reply with payment info for weeks and weeks. He's done many cameras for me over the years with zero trouble. Sigh.

My first experience with cameraleather was wrapping an M4-P with GripTac, now that i've got a user-user-user R-D1 I went ahead and ordered some GripTac for it, it'll make the camera much thinner (from what I can see) and alot stickier.. should be great. Will keep posted on status.
