Cameras in Canada - Montreal

Maybe someone can help !?

I am going to Montreal, Canada in a few weeks time and then on to the Minneapolis, US. Given the hugh price difference between Europe and at least US on cameras and the exchange rates I am thinking about picking up a Nikon D300 on my trip.

Can anyone advice on two things:

1. Cameras bought in Canada do they come with the world-wide guarantee or is it a setup similar to the one on US with a limited national setup ?

2. Any sufggestions for good stores in Montreal (I am staying in a part called Laval)

I don't know for Nikon but Canon gear purchased here only carries a North America guarantee (USA and Canada).

There are a few stores around. You should check Photo Service in Old Monteral first and then there is Lozeau. Google should be able to get you to their website. Usually prices in these shops are higher than when ordered online but as a european you can get a refund for the TPS-TVQ taxes (same as VAT in Europe) so I bet you gonna love your purchases!

Camtec Photo is a place I've dealt with. The owner, Jean Bardaji, is a very nice fellow to do business with. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend him.

I think you might ask Nikon Japan about their repair policies for cameras purchased outside your country of residence. I am under the impression that Nikon Canada will only repair under warranty items bought in Canada. Warranty repair can be a sticky issue if that is the case.

From the Nikon Canada site:
"Nikon digital products sold in Canada have a warranty which is honoured by Nikon Canada offices, this warranty is not supported by Nikon offices outside of Canada. Nikon digital products sold outside of Canada also have localised warranties and are not supported in Canada."
