I sold the Petri V6 that I got from my wife (then girlfriend) when I bought a Canon EF (FD) back in 74, and immediately regretted it. Then I sold the EF when I got the Canon A-1 in 79, and again immediately regretted it. When the Tokina lens I had on the A-1 didn't come off one day and even Canon's repair service couldn't offer more than to saw it off, the insurance company wanted it in return of a nice sum that I used to buy the new Canon EOS10. I used that for over 10 years. I still have it, but I've hardly used it since buying the EOS D60 in 2002, EOS 20D in 2005 and EOS 40D in 2007. I gave the D60 to my son. It was stolen when his house was broken in to. The 20D is now with my daughter and it's good to know that I could get it back if I wanted, it's a great camera! The 40D is too, but since a couple of years I only bring it on vacations and use my film cameras more and more.
I've bought the Petri V6 back on the bay, including the clip-on lightmeter. The same for an EF in exc condition and an equally nice A-1. After that I scored a black FTb, and a Canon F-1👎 on the web.
My back-to-basics regression started a couple of years ago with the two M4s and an MDa that I got when the photo lab at my work closed. Other M Leicas followed (M2, M3, M5, M6) but these were paid for 😉. The same for a number of Barnacks (IIIa, IIIc, IIIf, IIIg and a Canon IVSb).
Recently a nice M1 with micro visoflex found my way when also the other photo lab at work had to be cleaned out before moving to another building. It was accompanied by an F-1N with three finders, motor winder and a couple of lenses, a black AE-1 and a TLb. Two weeks ago came my first Olympus (OM2n).
It's nice to be known as a film camera collector; colleages and friends give me their old stuff, because otherwise they'll be thrown away.
I haven't sold a camera since 1990, but my wife is starting to complain... Who knows, one of these days I grow wise and get back to real basics: one camera + two lenses.
