I have a Leica swing out polarizer.
It has the same problem as my older Hasselblad polarizers...

There is separation near the center.

Anyone tried to swap out the glass from a standard polarizer with this leica one?

I am not sure the size, looks to be arounf 49mm

There seem to be (at least) two versions (I have one of each!), one has spanner slots in the ring that holds in the glass, the other doesn't. Both mine the glass is ok, but I knew somone who had the non-slotted kind and tried every which way to Sunday to get the ring loose and it wouldn't budge. Maybe the Leica repair guys have a trick. If yours has the spanner slots though, you're in luck.

yes, gregarpp, the polarizer can easily and inexpensively be fixed...assuming the filter is not broken and can be removed, you just take the filter to any decent optometrist and ask him or her to make you one the same size and you install the new polarizer....As has already said, some have slots in the retainer ring and same don't....What I did was to use a rubber pad --the kind you use to open jars -- and try to turn the filter counterclockwise...If it doesn't move, you might try to drip a little lighter fluid or rubbing alcohol around the retaining ring to loosen it and, with a little twisting of the rubber pad, you ought to be able to loosen the retainer and remove the filter... regards, bob
