Can anyone recommend a strap for a Zorki 1?

Since it has no lugs and carrying it in its case is inconvenient.... any options for carrying it safely whilst out and about doing some street photography?

Thanks for your advice in advance 🙂

Hey 2Monkees,

Some people use a screw salvaged from an old camera case. (The screw that holds the camera into the case via the tripod mounting bushing.) You can fabricate a wriststrap to fit around the screw, then install your strap-screw into the tripod bushing, and you're off! I think there are even some commercial straps available if you are not inclined to DIY.

Since all my FSU`s are in such excellent condition I wouldn`t think of using any one of them without the bottom half of the original leather case. I`m clumsy enough but looking at the cases I`d say they did their job well and have in large part kept these cameras in the mint cosmetic condition they are for the past 50+/- years.
I also use a rubber collapsible hood for lens protection. (mandatory for flare)

The first thing I do when I get another FSU is to cut the rivets holding the leather case halves and then install snaps. I don`t usually take the top half with me when shooting, as they are indeed a PIA.

The wrist straps are nice but IMO, these old clunkers are too heavy and even more prone to getting knocked around being they are totally unbalanced with the strap attached to the tripod lug.

To answer your question more specifically , I`d have to say it`s almost impossible to carry a substantially hefty FSU camera safely without the protection of a body case of some sort. So IMO there are no valid options.

I'd have to agree with giavotony's advice - a half-case made by separating an old or the original case is a good solution. Personally, I use a small camera bag mostly, or a big pocket!

I'd agree that the half-case is the easiest solution. If you're not comfortable replacing the rivets with snaps (to separate the top of the case) any shoe repair shop should be able to complete this transformation for you.

I will suggest an alternative for street shooting... find a substantial fabric neck loop- the kind used to hold I.D. cards and/or keys - and attach it to the camera by way of the tripod bushing. The camera will hang "upside down" but tucks easily inside your jacket front and "pulls" out quickly for use. This is what I use on my Zorki 1d w/J-12 when walking the streets in Washington DC.

My 2 cents

I have two and love them on light cameras. You will find more expensive, but you will not find better for three times the price. Great quality and good options. Gordy is a great guy to deal with.

I'm not a big Never Read Case fan so I keep my cameras naked.
