Can I buy a 35mm film punch?

... that will punch the starter end with a hole and "width reducing" cut on both edges so the film can be snapped in the slot of the spool on Kalt reusable cartridges.
I've actually searched this forum, and a couple of film and darkroom suppliers, so...

Fuji once made a punch that was a giveaway, but that was for the other end of the film. I use a hole punch meant for leather craft, and it works most of the time. But the hole should really be oblong if it is to work properly. I've never seen a punch to cut the correct shape so I use a small pair of scissors. Would be nice if something like that was available though.

Thank you. Ilford film comes punched as such for their spools, and Kalt casette spools are identical.
It's no use using a hole punch and scissors, since it is done in a changing bag. As it is with a lot of things, I will have to make my own template, but I'm not too happy carrying an xacto blade into the bag.

Some of the old Leica ABLON trimmers had an end that probably was used to trim for FILCA and IXMOO though you don't need a hole for those, so I don't know why a hole was supplied on the ABLON.

Not sure I understand why it has to be done in a change bag, or to the exact shape as in the photo of the leader you posted. My only similar, but different, experience is cutting film for my IIIf with a scissors...

Could you not use the ABLON for the similar shape leading edge, with a correct size leather punch through the whole in the ABLON and then use a hole punch to create an oblong shape. I guess you would expose and waste a bit of the end of the roll in doing the above....

now that I think about it, it seems like a lot of effort ; ) ; )

Any decent tool/engineering supply place will have hole punches in varying sizes. We used to use them when I was an apprentice motor mechanic for cutting holes in gaskets when we occasionally had to make them.

A tool like that would certainly be neat, but I just use tape with my Kalt cassettes and it’s been fine for me.

I have some FSU reloadable cassettes that have a rather ingenious little clip built into the spool to hold the end of the film, cut to a similar shape minus the hole, but all attempts to come up with a system for getting the end shaped turned out to be more trouble than just using tape. If you come up with a clever solution, please do share!

I'm using tape now on the Kalts, but the tape sometimes folds up one side of the spool and restricts the film. I will just have to refine my tape skills I guess.

Hey, this is a lot like what I ran into today, for the first time. Using a new-to-me Kiev 4, the 35mm take-up spool required edges about like this, but, no place for the hole punch. Instead, it had a lightly sprung edge of grippy teeth. What would that be, please... anyone?
