i do not believe anyone is forcing us to read and or comment on any thread.
some self discipline might be in order here...
also perhaps patience, a non judgemental attitude and maybe lighten up a bit, in general.
when the x100 was announced i was extremely excited and immediately started to figure how i could manage getting one, despite being broke at the moment.
but with each passing thread and with all the comments, both pro & con, i am wondering how this camera would be better/different than using my rd1 and 40.

I have seen this in other forums. I think there is a VBulletin plugin which allows you to hide selected forums. But it may require money to buy it, install it and then there's the maintenance and possibly performance issues.
Personally I think a "hide thread" option would be better. That way when you see something you are just not interested in, you click a button and never see it again. I don't know if there is a VBulletin plugin for that.
p.s. it'll all be over soon once the camera is available and the first few bad user experiences are reported. You know the sort of thing, viewfinder failing, focus errors, moire and all the usual digital stuff that means the next release will be so superior indicating the current release is a dog. But then you'll get all all "Problems with Xxxx" threads so you just can't win.

The X100 is not a rangefinder. In terms of excitement, agressive and insulting posts, etc., its reception is worse than the heat we experienced over the M8, a few years back. And it's not even out yet, it will get worse when people use it and find all the "flaws" that don't match their over-hyped expectations.
I politely suggest to put the X100 forum under "Miscellaneous Topics and more". That way we don't have to rename RFF to X100forum.com.

I think we'll just have to wait until X100IsAwesome.com or whatever similar forum to take off, and things will be back to the way it was here 🙂

I agree with you and in most cases I think that self discipline can edit the forum to the threads you are interested in. However, it has turned into an excess of threads that have drowned out what is interesting (for me and I'm sure for others as well).
It's like having an annoying friend on Facebook that keeps posting quotes and pictures of LOLcats. The great thing about Facebook is that you can ignore specific people. Now, I realize that RFF is no Facebook, but vbulletin must be somewhat customizable.
I think the option of hiding threads would be great and not just for the newest camera of the moment threads. There are a lot of old threads that pop up because someone adds to a poll, etc. etc. The ability to suppress these threads would be a valuable feature and I wouldn't discount the suggestion.
I would be more than happy to start up a collection to pay for the upgrade. We could use a service like Chip-in to collect the funds and ultimately pay for the upgrade.

unfortunately I think a "hide thread" option might be fairly inefficient since over time you may accumulate hundreds of hidden threads. That means a table lookup for every post that is listed on screen. It could be manged by putting a time limit on them of say a month so you don't build up big lists of threads to hide. Then hot threads you don't want to see could be hidden and by the time they die off your hiding of them would be reset. That way it would really only apply to current threads which is what I think would work best. An you could always hide it again if the thread is still very active.
I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for the option though...

I'd be fine if it was possible to ignore certain whole subforums of RFF in the "New Posts" query. Might be not easy though if there is no off-the-shelf solution for that.

Hm - a very common problem nowadays. The other day, I bought a new digital satellite TV. The horror - it's listing 500 TV stations. Can anyone help me not to get overwhelmed by all this media bull****? 😉
