Frank is going to be there, I want to take all of my 50s, but I will need to fashion myself a lens bandoleer if I expect to be able to carry them all around without throwing out my back. 3 days, a camera and 2 or 3 lenses may be a better call.

You'll have your HS Contax by then, Ralph.
Yes I will, and I already have 4 50s for it.

Via Rail or car?
GTA guys, anyone interested in a car pool/road trip to Montreal? The alternative is Via Rail: there's a special between Toronto and Montreal for about $130 (nonrefundable, nontransferable) or about $190 regular.

Hey folks ... VERY sorry to say that I will not be able to attend. I had already alerted Joe and Gene. I have family commitments the next week/weekend which involves travel, and I am currently in cash conservation mode.
I don't know what more to say except again, how bummed I am, but I know you will all have a great time. Toss a couple back for me!

If the train schedule works out for you, I recommend it. Driving in Montreal, like in any large city, is difficult. If you decide to drive, ensure that the hotel you choose has a parking lot available; street parking when you're staying anywhere downtown will not work.FrankS said:Via Rail or car?

Also, a note to all of those who decide to drive: Turning right on a red light anywhere on the island of Montreal is strictly prohibited. As well, you may only turn on a green light when there is a right-pointing arrow, or a full green lamp; turning right on a forward-pointing arrow is not allowed. Off of the island, you will also find certain intersections that prohibit right turns during red; please watch for these signs.

BJ has suggested the Montreal Auberge de Jeunesse as a place to stay. I’ve checked their site on the net & there are rooms for 3,4,6, & 10. I figure that 4 is likely the most convenient room size with respect to organising a congenial group, & they have more 4 bed rooms than other sizes. If a larger group works out, that’s definitely ok with me. Copied from their site:
* 3 rooms with 3 beds (on 2 floors)
* 24 rooms with 4 beds (on 4 floors)
* 8 rooms with 6 beds (on 3 floors)
* 6 rooms with 10 beds (on 3 floors)
I’d like to get a 4 person group (or larger) started, as I tend to get anxious about getting a reasonably priced room in a city like Montreal, even if it’s not quite Paris in the spring time. I’ll even make the reservation once we’ve got a group, & we’ll settle up in Montreal. $30 for non-HI members, $22.75 for members.
I'm planning to take the train down. Driving, then having to park, in downtown Montreal is the original non-starter.

Frank, I'm interested in car pooling or Via Rail.....hopefully that special includes Aldershot-Montreal, maybe I could ensure I'm on the same train as you, possibly coordinate with Rob S who's in Burlington. Could you forward the info on the special? (I saw $175 from Aldershot, station just between Hamilton & Burlington on the 403). Pretty rippy AFAIC....no wonder nobody takes the train. I have a towncar so can fit 3 more guys very comfortably.....I 'll leave either Fri sometime or Sat morning, but I want to come home Sun night.....
Won't be the same without you Earl.....

It's a bit more pricey but I can get to Montreal and back to Toronto for an hour each way.
Hmmm. I have to confirm with Nancy and Hubert.
