:) Does anyone collect canisters?

I started collecting at one point but threw them all away :bang: because I was moving and didn't want to carry any clutter. Starting again, and it's just nice to look at them for design purposes too. :)

I do it, too.

Since I was late to the photography (and film), not much of a collection.

I had a large collection on the windowsill of my developing room (laundry) but tossed them when we moved interstate earlier this year... I have once again started a new collection this time kept in the bottom of my developing box, but since I bulk load most of my stuff, it takes me a long time to get much of a collection (I currently have 2 :D)

An excellent thread! I have loads of canisters and have intended to photograph them for a while but not got round to it. Hopefully this will spur me into action :)

I thought I was the only person who did this!

Sara, PM me your address an I'll send you a rare one from the 70s (if I still have it).

OK, but how does one get the exposed film out of the canister (to develop) without ruining the canister? I remember one brand of film that I could disassemble just like my reloadable canisters. That was some years ago; None of my current film brands seem to come apart so easily and I have to ruin the canister to get the film out.

i keep every canister i self-develop. it's become quite the formidable pile, most of it HP5.

sharing this reminded me how i would collect random things as a kid: keys, coins, lighters, drink bottles, etc. funny, the things we do.

Google FILM LEADER RETRIEVER or ILFORD FILM CASSETTE LEADER RETRIEVER

One trick is to lick the end of a used film-leader, stick that into the canister and push it in a few inches, wait 10 seconds and yank the film-leader out again, the film inside the canister usually follows and comes out.

I collect stamps! :)
I don't think anyone around me at my age does anymore. But I have a strong passion for it and I have my father's and grandfather's collection too. They're just very nice to look at. :)
