Some time ago I bought a 600 ml can of canned liquid air from GEPE - with a "refill" word under the title. It came with a screw-on spray-nose (what is the proper name of that thing?), but did not get much use.

Recently I bought a scanner and used the whole bottle within 2 weeks. ANd it does a great job on reducing the dust spots in scans. I soon realized that I will need a lot of these in the future I started to look for a refilling possibility - in Germany - but with no success. Even worse - there are no 600 ml bottles on the market here anymore - the largest seem to be 400 ml. Again - the design of the valve is the same - what suggest that a refill should be possible - I do not see the possibility to get the refill done.

So - what do you do? The cost of a new bottle is above 10 euros for 400 mm. I would love to have the refill option, but there seems to be nothing .... any ideas? 😕

Run a static wire ground from the scanner to ground so it attracts less dust.

Keep a painters or brush tack cloth to wipe off material befor you put it on the scanner bed.

Keep negs clean and neg holders clean in a drawer. A small brush is sufficient to clean the occasional dust. Examing negs with a loupe rather than blast all over which just spreads any dust into the air.

Get a room air filter and filter the incoming air if you have forced air heat. Cheese cloth works fine.

Keep the scanner covered when not in use.

I do most of the above, and have a compressor line to my desk – I hate dust with a passion – the most effective way of removing static is to get the humidity up to 70 or 80% around the work area

PS I also have two ionisers in the room

Doesn't someplace still sell the old static brushes. I used to use those and found them very effective. I also used a squeeze static killer for records with some success.

you can get a small hobby compressor like the one in the link below pretty cheaply. put it in the garage(they aren't quiet) and run an air hose to your office, hose is cheap too.
if you live in an apartment, start watching craigslist or ebay for a dental air compressor. they're whisper quiet and dentists replace them fairly often.
