Thanks, Roland. The Sacramento Police are reportedly taking the investigation "very seriously." Four of Team Astana's bike's were stolen, including Lance Armstrong's, so it's a pretty high value theft. The local NPR station this morning reported that there may be a witness. Stay tuned.

Jiri had one about a month ago on the 'bay -mine-because I used it only once in three years at a nite outside concert of all times (not the best of conditions for a 3.5 lens), so I traded it and other stuff to him for an 85/1.8 black. Nevertheless, it's a fine lens for daytime (Sunny 16 shooting) or close.

This is still one of my favorite Canon lens although there's so many that I really like. Here's a picture of some of the 100mm f/3.5 lenses that I currently own.
When placed side by side, it becomes obvious that there are some changes to the coating over the 7 distinctive variation of this lens.

I find that I often have trouble focusing mine on my M8 (I don't think I've used it on my M4). The focusing barrel has a long turn and there seems to be a fairly large zone in the middle where a subject seems to be in focus but isn't quite, and it's hard to judge in the rangefinder patch. Or, maybe mine is backfocusing a little. I'm sure a viewfinder enlarger would help. I do like the lens, I just have to work it a lot harder than my other (non-telephoto) lenses.
But it does look snazzy on my chrome M8 and I easily found a UV/IR filter for it. It makes a nice Mutt-and-Jeff travel companion with my teensy little Avenon 28.

I picked up one of the chrome/black 100mm f/3.5 lenses a while back to round out my father's lens collection. I couldn't believe how small and light it was compared to the 85mm and 135mm all chrome lenses.
The lens appears to be in good shape, as represented by the seller, but I did notice that the aperture ring turns like a hot knife through butter. Is it supposed to be that loose? Is it supposed to stop at the marked f-stops, or just fly back and forth? Did I get a lens repaired by someone who didn't know what they were doing?
