I note that Stephen Gandy's site indicates that the black Canon 28/3.5 ltm lens is an excellent lens. Is there any optical difference between the later black version and the earlier chrome version of the Canon 28/3.5?
No. This lens design was patented in 1951 in USA and Germany by Hiroshi Ito, together with the great 1.8/50, the 3.5/105 and the 1.5/85. All of them great lenses.
