Canon LTM Canon 35mm f/1.5 - Crazy price!

I was watching an auction on eBay for a Canon 35mm f/1.5. It closed last night at a whopping $921!!!

Is this what these lenses sell for?

Makes the CV 35mm f/1.4 a bargain at $580 NEW from Stephen.


Why did this lens sell for so much?

Some part of that price might be the Nikon finder it came with, rather than a more "common" Canon or Leica finder.

The previous one on eBay went for $884, from a seller with 100% feedback, rather than the 99.5% feedback of the seller of the $921 one. So that argues for the Nikon finder definitely raising the price.

Even at $884 it seems very high considering the CV 35mm f/1.4 can be had new for $580.

I've never used a Canon 35mm f/1.5 - I guess it must have a special 'look'.

Well, the price for the Canon also factors in collector interest.

This is the same reason a Leica 35/3.5 Elmar can fetch more money than a 35/3.5 Summaron, even through the Summaron is clearly the better lens.

A little bit off topic, but have you seen the rising prices of the summicrons and summarons (2.8)? with those compared, the Canon has still a nice price tag...

All of the fast glass, especially the canon fd's that I have been following have shot up in price. Why? Because you can get mount adapters for micro 4/3 and Sony nex cameras...
