I'm expecting a canon ltm lens soon that has the odd 40mm filter ring. God, I hate waiting for the mail 😉

Has anyone tried fitting a modern 39mm uv filter on their Canon lens' 40mm filter ring by wrapping teflon plumbing tape around the threads of the 39mm filter?

Are there other suggestions short of getting the Series VI adapter? I'd hate to waste all the other 39mm filters I have for my other lenses.

Thanks so much.

And yes, the filters are underpriced and they make all there money in the handling fee. You think Ebay would be smarter than that.

Anyone knows of a 46mm-40mm step up ring? Or 49mm-40mm?
Just to use the same B&W filters on my Pentax SLR and Canon RF lenses?

cheers, Frank

Frank,

I've been searching for these high and low, as I have 46mm and 49mm filters that I would love to use on the 40mm ring. No one seems to make them. I don't know if anyone has ever made them commercially.

The only option is to have a custom one made, and those are prohibitively expensive. I guess we are stuck taking our chances with the 'elements' 😛

I have the same problem: I picked up a 50mm Canon on Craigslist and, after rejecting the 40mm to Series VI solution, found someone on Ebay in Hong Kong with brand-new 40mm UV filters with markings on it that end in UMI, Japan...I'm waiting for it to arrive...If anyone is interested, look at No. 7589648891 Mine cost me £0.99 British Pounds + £2.79 to ship from Hong Kong... regards, bob

I ordered brand new 40mm B+W filters from Adorama 3 weeks ago. Items were back-ordered. Just got an email from Adorama today saying my filters have been shipped, along with a UPS tracking number. Not too bad a wait, IMHO.

Good news if true...

They're not listed on the Adorama website.
Good thing you asked!

Price each?

Please let us know how they work out...

Chris,

The B+W filters in 40mm are listed in the search section of Adorama for filters, 40/40.5 mm.

There is UV and Skylight 1A in 40mm for $29.95 and $28.95 each. The shipping cost is expensive though, at $9.95.

Still trying to find some decent black and white filters though. The 40mm yellow K2 filter listed above from ebay (I think the person's name is Airwatches) are very old Walz filters in their original packing. The paper on the boxes are crumbling and the plastic foam inside the original plastic case has crumbled almost into dust. (I bought one of these filters!) After some cleaning though, the filter is very good.

I was hoping they offered new 40mm filters for black & white, too.

Guess I must continue looking for what I want in used...

The reason they are in the used section is that they are NOS and are not the current F-Pro version.

Ffordes in the UK has some new yellow single coated B+W filters for about £7 ($11). Shipping is £3 ($5) in the UK, probably a little more to the US. For some reason they are listed in the used section, but they are new.
