canon 50/1.2 images

Joe: It's always good to see you "join in".
Here are some recent photos taken with a Canon 50/1.2 and a Leica M3 camera. I think, I used F 1.2~2.0. Focusing was very easy. I was surprised how nice the M3 is to use, compared to rangefinder cameras with less bright viewfinders.

Raid, you wouldn't happen to have a Pentax 50/1.2 (slr), by any chance?

I'll throw in now too - just got back the first test roll - only a few shots that were not of targets and walls - but I think I like this lens. 😀

Wide open at 125, with Kodak BW400CN (just for quick tests - I have a roll of PanF+ in the camera now).

Raid, you sold me this lens a while back, and I've shot with it a ton, and loved it well- so well, infact, that it now needs service- developed some haze, I noticed recently. But I still love it, even though it flares a lot right now. Took this one in August, shooting just after sunset wide open (f1.2). Almost all bokeh, but I like it. Let's see more pics from this lens!

that haze is easy to clean.

if i recall correctly it was a matter of unscrewing a few rings and cleaning the glass. there was a 'how to' on the 50/1.4 and it's the same for the 1.2

Here's a couple I have scanned. Not great, but whatever.

First is Ilford XP2. 1/15 @ 1.2

Second is Fuji Reala. Probably 1/15 or 1/30 @ 1.2

Chris: I have the 50/1.4 SMC but no 50/1.2 Pentax lens. I do have a Canon 50/1.2L that is superb.

Hi! I am glad that you are enjoying the lens. After selling you "my lens", I immediately missed the 50/1.2 and I bought a not so nice example with crooked filter mount but with clean glass. Get yours taken care of.

I certainly will, Raid. Aside from the haze, it looks and functions as well as it did when I bought it from you, even though I carry it around often enough, and shoot with at almost every week. It's earned a ton for me doing wedding work and portraits, and we seem to like each other. I'm sorry you missed it, but glad you got another one. I've enjoyed your pictures, and your lens comparisons, especially since I love the 50mm length so much, and I've picked up one or two lenses on the strength of your explorations. Your daughter looks like a beautiful and happy kid (and patient!), so keep shooting, and keep posting! Thanks again, and best wishes.

Thanks. Yes, the 50mm focal length is special, and there are many excellent and affordable 50mm lenses around to be picked up and used. As for your wedding and portrait photography, did you sometimes use the 50mm lens wide open?

Lots of great images guys 🙂

Only gotten to using it on one concert yet, both shots at f1.4, 1/125, TMAX400.
Edit: Added a shot from a cafe-concert where f1.2, 1/50, Delta3200 at EI1600 turned out very thin negs. Only lighting was candles and spotlights bounced off the dark walls.

Raid- yes, I often use the Canon (and pretty much all my lenses) wide open. The shot I posted above was done wide open, f1.2. I'd guess 90% of what I've shot with this lens has been at f1.2 or 1.4. I will use a 'cron or Elmar or other when I want something slower, since I like the lightest weight and smallest lens I can get away with.

I also find some of that veiling flare dreaminess in my lens when slightly overexposed, but not as pronunced as in your sample. It really adds a great atmosphere to the image, though.. 🙂

Great shot, Gabriel! Goes to show that not all concert photography must be purely documentary 🙂

I'll hazard one of the actual band shots from the mentioned tricky location aswell. Hope you can see anything (my monitor's calibration is a bit off)!
