Canon LTM Canon 50 1.2 LTM for a Bessa R3

Any good camera tech can repair a filter ring dent for a small fee (about the cost of lunch in whatever currency). The dent on the ring does imply however that the lens got a bang somewhere in its past. The CV 40/1.4 is a beautiful lens, very well made, very useful, and sharp - also a good choice.

Thanks again for the input, guys. I live in Argentina, and those lenses are far from common down here. I asked the seller for pictures and noted a small, but noticeably, hit on the filter ring. So, the lens is not in MINT condition. I think I would go for a fast 40 (such CV 1.4) or a fast 35.

I just got a 50/1.2 with P body at ¥40,000 at Yahoo! Auction in Japan. The lens has no fungus or haze though exterior is slightly beat up.

It holds and feels fine.

I bought one of those Canon 50 1.2 from Raid a few years back, and it's still a favorite lens; I've never been tempted to sell it. As far as cameras to mount it on goes, I normally use an M3- this is a brilliant pairing. The R3x is certainly the best Bessa to use a lens like this on. All the Bessas have the same physical RF base length; the R3 cameras with their 1:1 finders have the highest magnification factor for the longest effective RF length of any Bessa, but it's still not much.

The bottom line on function for this pairing is that wide open at close focusing distances would be pretty tricky to nail focus, but stopped down and/or at longer distances you'll probably like it a great deal. My own experience is that a 50mm lens on a 1:1 finder camera is an absolute joy to use. I keep both eyes open and get that floating frameline effect, with little visual awareness of the camera at all. Framing this way is as natural as photography gets, IMO. The 40mm framelines on the R3 cameras are ok, but a bit trickier to see- I have to do more searching (I don't wear glasses).

There have been a few 50/1.2 for sale here recently. I missed the first one (went for $400 iirc) and then got the 2nd ($440), which unfortunately has a slight problem with the focus ring, about to develop my first shots with the lens wide open 😀

There is right now a Canon SLR 55/1.2 FL lens that was custom changed to M mount being offered for below $400 here. The 55/1.2L is a better lens that the 50/1.2 RF lens.

My recommendation is to save over $200 and get the 55/1.2.

To use a Canon 50mm f/1.2 wide open you really need an M3. With a .91 viewfinder the effective RF base is 62.33. Even with that I miss too often!

I guess I was very lucky... I got mine from the auction site, on a Best Offer deal, for $400, with hood! The adapter came from Fotodiox (an Illinois company) and I used it for a while with my M3. I'll eventually will send it to Sherry for a clean up, but right now I haven't had any problem with it.
