Canon LTM Canon 50/1.4 LTM lens just sold for $1358!

Canon M39 M39 screw mount bodies/lenses
Hmm, I just got one of these the day before yesterday in like-new condition, including the original box with a matching serial number. Yesterday I picked up a second one. Altogether I paid a fraction of Nobby's price for both, and the second one came with a minty Canon 7S attached to it.

I'm expecting a P and another 7 in the mail today, both with lenses, and even adding these to the pot, I'm still far below Nobby's sell. I hope I am as lucky when I list my stuff.

Doesn't look like the underbidder was a shill, this is the first time they have bid on an item from nobbysparrow. But they have only bid on 5 items, so the underbidder is a newbie.

I just sold my rarely used Canon 50/1.2 on eBay, why don't these kinds of people bid on my items? I got a fair $801 for a lens I paid less than $300 for 5 years ago, bit I'd certainly have cash a larger check.

This was NOT two last second high bids!!!

This was NOT two last second high bids!!!

Can anyone see what was so special about this lens? That seems to be a huge overpayment for such a lens, isn't it? Here's the eBay listing:

Wow. Look at the bid history with automatic bids shown (Your anonymous names may show different that mine?):
  1. At 7:31:35, 8***1 has the high real bid of $356
  2. At 7:33:36, b***e bids higher at $360
  3. At 7:40:09, 8***1 bids $454, but only shows as $365
  4. At 7:59:47, g***8 bids $1288!, but it shows as $459
  5. At 8:00:19, 8***1 bids $555, not enough, auto bid of $565
  6. At 8:00:34, 8***1 bids $666, not enough, auto bid of $676
  7. At 8:00:47, 8***1 bids $777, not enough, auto bid of $787
  8. At 8:00:58, 8***1 bids $888, not enough, auto bid of $898
  9. At 8:01:12, 8***1 bids $999, not enough ($1009)
  10. At 8:01:31, 8***1 bids $1111, not enough ($1136)
  11. At 8:01:54, 8***1 bids $1222, not enough ($1247)
  12. At 8:06:00, 8***1 bids $1333, get top shown bid of $1313
  13. At 8:12:24, g***8 bids something higher, shows as $1358
  14. At 8:13:16, auction is over
It was g***8's mistake to bid that high that early. Probably thought it would discourage anyone by the time the price got too high. But 8***1 was determined to keep bidding higher and had time to do so, eventually pushing the price way overboard.

Once his really high bid was beat, g***8, who really wanted it, had to bid again. I imagine 8***1 gave up at that point, or thought he had it, and didn't watch the end of the auction, or it might have gone higher still!!!!

I watched that action with a lot of interest, as I just got a 50/1.8, and was looking to see what the other focal lengths were going for. Somebody screwed up big time on this one. But then maybe the winning bidder lost out on the one that sold just before it at USD$127.50 with $14.00 shipping. Or maybe he bought one of the 3 Canon bodies (IID2, VL2, and P) that went before it, and just had to have a lens. But then one sold the next day for $266.00+$10.00S&H, so hopefully there won't be anymore bidding wars.

It's interesting to look at the biding history in these cases, like dbm posted. You can see bidders that don't understand the system making mistake after mistake because they've "got to have it....now!" All the other buyers looking for the F1.4 can just turn away, shaking their heads, and buy the next one that comes up next week or the next.

UPDATE: I just did a quick search on Ebay, there are 5 or more of this lens right now on auction or BIN. One on a camera for 800 something....

Ahhhemmm......I would say you did great, I paid less for a like-new nokton 50/1.1 in the spring, and not long after went 440 for a nice user 50/1.2. I'd say a fair price for a perfect one right now is about 600-650.

There are lots of outliers like this 1.4 always, but I think in truth prices are more steady than such an orgy might suggest.

I'm fairly satiated at the moment, but I do check some items. The CVs are steady for at least a year, as are 50/1.8s.

There was a very nice looking 100/2 here a month ago and the guy had to drop his price several times to mid 3s if I remember--or even lower.

I had my 100/2 with me last nite for an unusual sight at dusk:

:)

You see that look in his eye? He wants gear.

Anyone interesting to buy my Canon 50/1.4 LTM?,...$999 only....:D

Here is mine. I bought a 62mm push on cap for the hood, it works fine. So that i don't need to remove the hood to protect the lens with a cap. I bought mine attached to a 7S for 100 bucks.

Maybe buyer just don care about pricing..there r some really rich guys who just want it..n their ego rules over their mind!:)

Then yesterday Nobby sold a Canon 50/1.8 "Parts" lens for $110.51+$12.00 S&H. I might have gone thirty on one, but it's not that rare of a lens for that price.

Meanwhile, two Canon 50/1.4 lenses on cameras (Both Canon 7s I believe) just finished on auctions for less than $450 each.
