Canon 50mm 1.2 Repair......

depends where the haze is. The Canon 50/1.2 tends to develop haze on the group immediately behind the iris. Not very hard to clean at home, if you have a lens spanner wrench and basic skills with tools (hey, even I can do it). Unscrew rings and the rear element from the lens body, clean and replace. It is not uncommon to have to clean the lens in this fashion every year or two.

If the haze is elsewhere, you may have to send it out to be cleaned. If you have to send it out, DAG Camera is a great source, as well as Pete Smith of Fotocamera Repair, Inc.

I have used both for Canon LTMs, and have been very pleased with the results

It is prevalent, and ranges anywhere from haze on the elements behind the aperture to etching the glass. The main source seems to be oil from the focus mount getting in through the aperture mechanism. On one, the oil stained the Canada Balsam.

It is easy to get the rear module out. A spanner, or even a set of fine needle-nosed pliers used as a spanner will do. Once out, try cleaning the glass with a little lens cleaner on a q-tip and cleaning it off with lens cleaning paper. Be careful not to use too much fluid, which can get into the balsam of the group. My Avatar shows the needle-nosed pliers that will work for this lens, and a spanner.

Thanks Guys! My Canon F1.2 has a bit of haze behind the aperture (around the outer edges of the element next inside, looks like, to me) so I'll get out the spanner this weekend and give it a go. Interesting to hear you need to do this every so often.

Dexdog & Brian,

Just finished cleaning the interior surface of my F1.2 Canon cell. Everything went well, it only took about 15 minutes, including the time it took to figure how everything fits together.:bang: It took about three tries for me to get it -right-.

😀😀 So, now my Canon F1.2 has -pristine- glass 😀😀
