I just bagged a nice M-mount Canon 50mm 'Dream' lens! The auction included the filter and the hood. I have a few questions, if any one can help:

- How does the filter/hood combo work? Filter onto lens, hood onto filter?

- What size lenscap do I need to fit over the hood?

- I want to get a 72mm ND x8 filter to allow the use of the lens wide open in good light. Would the lens vignette if I used this filter on top of the UV filter and used the hood?

Many thanks,
Robin.

Investigate some of the extremely thin, low profile (2- 3mm) 'digital' Pro filters from the ranges of Hoya, etc, etc - they are very thin to be used on the very short focal length digital zooms. Though most have NOT got an 'external' female thread to accept a hood or other filter, and are expensive .... but on the positive side the 0.95 hood isn't a screw in design, but a slip on/over with a locking thumb screw.

You could always check the combination filters that are manufactured, ie there is a 'warming polarisier' - a PL filter with a 81A coating in the same mount. Don't know if a N.D. equivalent is available.

Or what about simply using slower film?

I would suggest using only one filter at a time on this lens, because it's very sensitive to internal reflections.

Thanks, guys. Now for the search for some 72mm filters...these guys won't be cheap. I like the sound of the hood - I prefer the 'over and tighten' or the bayonet to the screw-in type.
