This lens looks like a Summitar, but there seems to be very few for sale on the auction site or elsewhere.
I saw a couple for sale in Japan at crazy high prices, almost double that of a Summitar.
Is a reason? Is this a rare lens?

I think it was only in production a little while before it was superseded by the 50mm f1.9. I think its price reflects its rarity. Joe

Double the price of a Summitar is not bad at all for a rare lens.

If if it was a rare 50mm f2 Nippon Kogaku made lens it would be priced much higher.

Just looked at Peter K's Canon rangefinder book. The 50/2.0 was "the third lens developed by Canon for commercial use." Introduced in February, 1947.
Probably discontinued in 1949. Gauss formula, 6 elements in four groups. There were several variations. it is a rare lens, with less than 2,000 produced.
