I've shot about 4 rolls now. Still getting the hang of this beast. Definitely a learning curve. I would say that generally, mine is very soft wide open, which is not surprising, I sort of expected this.

Same here, mine is really soft wide open as well! I just got one a couple of weeks ago, should be sending it for CLA soon, rather stiff on the barrel.

I pulled my Canon 1.2 out of storage because of the excessive pricing and seeming inaccessability of a summicron 1..4 or even f/2. These shots were from a test rolll, all shot wide at 1.2 on an M6, about 1/500th to 1/1000th. They were scanned at my lab as TIFF's, then made into small JPEG using Photoshop and Smart Sharpen (I suck at sharpening...).

I like the lens but it's heavy and the aperture ring is difficult to adjust. But until I can afford and find a summicron, it's what I;ve got. I think it's nice, and actually much sharper than my collapsable Summicron 50 f/2 wide open.

Its an interesting lens. The one I have has a pretty scratched up front element but it takes some pleasant and character filled photos so long as you do not expect miracles in terms of sharpness when shooting the thing open. I have some samples (if I can locate them I shall post them.)

I picked one of these lenses today for a good price, it has a little haze on the rear element which I hope will clean up easily. I actually think this lens is fairly compact. I have a Canon 7 with a 50/.095, in comparison the 50/1.2 is somewhat less than half the size, and it is smaller than my old Nokton 50/1.1. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of pics it'll take, and it'll look good on that black P that I found last week.

I thought it might be interesting for those who use EVIL cameras to know that the SLR version 58mm f1.2 is also an excellent lens to use. I understand the 55mm f1.2 is even better partly due to improved coating. I have had a 58mm version for a long time but have not used it much since giving up film. I recently bought a Sony NEX 5 and an adapter for Canon FL/FD lenses. The images I get are not too far off the ones I get from the Voigtlander 50mm f1.1 Nokton, except when shot contra joure - when the older lens coating really suffers. I will try to post some images for those who are interested in that later fast Canon lens. Incidentally I also have a 50mm f1.2 in LTM. My initial impression is that its a bit softer than the SLR lens although this could also be due to my LTM lens being a bit scratched up. Again I will try to post some comparisons.

I really like the look of this lens. I wanted one for a long time, but what keeps stopping me is that I really didn't like the ergonomics of the few Canon RF lenses that I've owned (briefly) over the years. I bought them always WANTING TO LOVE THEM, but just couldn't get beyond the infinity locks, weird filter sizes, rotating aperture rings, long focus throws, etc.

So I settled on a Zeiss C-Sonnar as my fast 50mm instead of the Canon 50/1.2.

Almost all infinity locks can be disabled. All of the external Canon ones can be disabled quite easily.
This lens uses a 55mm filter which isn't hard to find at all.
Aperture rings on the later Canon lenses don't rotate.
Focus throw IS long but you need that with a super-speed lens.

This thread is great. Features one of my very favorite lenses!
