Canon 50mm f1.2 on a Leica M?

thanks for the help.
I try to see if I can find anything here locally in Vancouver.
If not, I will just bring it to HK this summer and have someone to do it for me.

cheers,

Nico

Took this lens out today. Shots were taken in Singapore Botanical Garden. A favorite for those who love nature.

Wow ZoomP.. I often wonder if I should have sprung for the 1.2 instead of the 1.4. I've never been able to get that really pronounced painterly quality of things slightly out of focus like in your last picture. Looks great!

Nico,

you might try John van Stelten at Focal Point. He is able to get lenses back to near mint condition, he specialises in glass surface cleaning. Fungus might be hard to get out though.

I find the Canon 50/1.2 very easy to work on. I sold one last week that had three aperture blades missing. I picked that up for little cash, but when it arrived ('fully functional lens') three aperture blades were bent and torn! (watch out for ferndowncameras on That Auction Site, used to trade as rockycamera and member....... something as well). Disassembly is very simple, the aperture is easy, and with tightening three retaining rings within the optics of the lens in the correct order, all play is eliminated (found that out on third run, though...)

Seems to me that lenses with even the littlest haze inside flare very easily, but without haze are sharp. I used a previously synthetic cloth and distilled water to clean the surfaces and all came out brilliant, both on the lens I sold for parts and on the black rim one I kept.

Here's a shot with the two side by side:

The little scratches on the front coating in both lenses do not seem to have an effect on the picture quality, now that the internal optics are clean.

EDIT: GREAT SHOTS MFOGIEL, RAID AND JASPER! I really should give my lens a spin this afternoon, once the fog clears up...

Bro, let me try to take the pic with my Canon 50 f1.4 LTM next time and see if the bokeh is similar. I got both lenses. One for compact usage and one for really low light or crazy bokeh pics. Heheh

My schedule have been super packed that I haven't really have time to test shot yet. However, here's a shot I took of my friend after a couple bottles of sake. 🙂

Hope you all will love this lens as much as I do.
The color rendering and bokeh is amazing.
I love how it glows at the focus point when shooting wide open.

cheers!!

Love the 50 1.2

Love the 50 1.2

And find it acceptably sharp on the M8. Wonderful portrait lens.
