CANON 5dmk2 converted to Leica M!!!!

Who needs a Leica M? I modified the Canon 5dmk2 (disassembled it, modified mirrorbox, etc) to take Leica M lenses. If interested in this type of conversion, contact me. robert@robertbenson.com

The attached images were shot today with the 50mm f1 noctilux on my canon 5dmk2.

Five frames per second, focus peaking, clean images at iso 2000, live view, video, etc..... specs that are better than the M9 or M.

Focusing is done using LiveView, I presume? If you use something like Magic Lantern, you even get focus peaking and the usual perks.

Very interesting ! Now I also would like to see some images taken with wide-angle lenses since the Canon sensor does not have the micro lenses on the sensor.

This has been done a few times, I think the first I saw was on a Canon 5D (which was pretty pointless since there was no live view, but cool modification anyway).

Anyone who wants a rangefinder still needs an M, though.

I modified the 5dmk2, not the 5d. (And that sensor does have microlenses). I focus right off the sensor, using liveview. I have a hoodman type scope on the lcd so its held right up to my eye. Shooting is quick and easy and pleasant.

I will post pictures of the camera later today. The entire front part of the camera has been cut away.

Why not just buy some Canon L glass. I doubt Leica M lenses on the 5d mkII are any better than Canon L lenses.

That way he would end up having to buy new L lenses that are, as everybody knows, good, big and expensive. This way he can use his existing lenses that are good, small, and already paid for.

Case in point: he seems to have a Noctilux already, now buying another Canon 50/f1 L lens would be pretty expensive and it'd be a huge chunk of glass.

Very interesting work around you have created. I'm tuned in to learn more.
Do you have more images on flicker or elsewhere from this set up.
The native image posting size here on the board is quite small. It would be nice to see larger images.

Good Point. They aren't cheap.🙂
