Hi,

I'm slowly equipping my RFs with diopter correction lenses and it's great. Unless I'm overlooking something the Canon 7 has neither built in nor provision for add-on.

Has anyone modified the eyepiece to take a Leica or Epson diopter? like sticking a threaded ring on the eyepiece ring?

For the Canon P, they made three replacement eyepeice assemblies with different diopters.

The Canon 7 repair manual available online doesn't have a detailed parts list, so I don't know if they did the same there. Of course, you can't order that part from Canon anymore.

So have an optician measure the diopter of the eyepeice, and have a new one made with the right change in the diopter. Of course, you may need to have a new ring machined, unless you want to smash out the existing lens (ow).

Eyepiece removal ?

Eyepiece removal ?

Hi all,
Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but, i am looking at buying a Canon P or a Canon 7, and will need to get the eyepiece corrected.
I have seen that the eyepiece on the P is plastic and held with a small screw, but cant tell from the parts diagram how the eyepiece comes off the 7. Does anyone know if it's a screw in part ?
If it also comes off my optician could make a correcting lens for me.
Many thanks in advance,
Geoff

OK, maybe the question was too hard.
Does the eyepiece on the 7 unscrew ?
Thanks in advance,
Geoff

Yes it does ! At least on the 2 Canons 7 that i have.

Personally i need an eye piece correction of +1 while the standard eyepiece gives actually a minus correction. So i am better of with the eyepiece unscrewed 🙂

Alas unable to find genuine diopter correction eyepieces for this camera :bang:

Seeing is believing, so here an image of the removed Eye piece :

I measured the thread diameter, about 16mm.
The lens diameter is about 13mm

What tolerance does "about 16mm" have? The regular eyepiece diameter used on Canon SLRs that did not use a square eyepiece is 17mm. Could this be the same size?

Just did some more precise measurements.

Thread of the Eye piece between beaks of the Caliper : Diameter 16,4 mm
Outside of Eye piece between beaks of the Caliper : Diameter 18,9 mm

Hope that somebody can give us those diameters of a F1 SLR Eye-piece.

I just measured two correction eyepieces for the original canon F-1 plus the glassless original ring using dial calipers. The threads on the glassless ring and the +1 eyepiece both measured 19.8mm. The 0 diopter eyepiece measured 19.0mm. Even the 19.8mm eyepieces had a little play in the threads.

Thanks for that information !
So an eyepiece for the F-1 clearly will not fit on the Canon 7. Pity.

I myself tried already the good available eyepiece of a Nikon FM SLR.
Unfortunately that is also too big :-(
