I'm in strange territory because I've never owned any Canon equipment (SLR or rangefinder), so please be gentle.
I have a chance to purchase a Canon 7 body at a very attractive price. Everything works and the body is a black repaint that was very skillfully done. The one fly in the ointment is that the illuminator window is not fixed in place, but is sitting loose inside the body.
If you turn the camera lens mount facing down, it can be "jiggled" back into place. I'm thinking that a couple of drops of Crazy Glue carefully applied when the window is in place would likely fix it, but I don't know if I'd be ruining anything inside.
If this window is for the light meter, then I wouldn't be too concerned, because I shoot mostly from experience anyway and also always carry a handheld meter as well.
Is it relatively easy to get inside this area of the body to possibly fix this from the inside instead?
Please and thank you.
Robert

Take the cover off and glue it from behind with a brown glue. As I recall, the window is plexi and will be marred by superglue.

I would suggest a CLA, especially if buying at an attractive price. your all in cost should be o and you know you have a fully functioning camera.

Thank you both for the replies.
Dante,
Is the cover easily removable, and where would I find the sequence of steps to remove it?
I'm a handy person but if it requires special tools, it might not be something I'd be willing to tackle.
As I said I have neither knowledge of, nor experience with Canon rangefinders, so I'm working a bit blind here.

If you want to take the top cover off, look at this:

Set the ISO to 400, and turn the shutter speed dial to 1/15 second, then make sure the orange f/2.8 lines up with the mark in the meter window. Then you can back out the three set screws which hold on the shutter speed dial. Back out the screws just enough to lift off the dial, the set screws are easy to lose.

Remove the winding lever by turning out the screw with a pointed spanner or sharp tweezers. Use the spanner or tweezers to remove the inner socket on the flash bayonet, then pull out the flash bayonet. Remove the film rewind knob by putting a screwdriver tip in the rewind fork, and twisting the knob counter-clockwise.

Remove the shutter button collar by backing out the three set screws, and lifting the collar off.

Lastly, remove the screw on the right side of the top cover, and the screw on the front next to the viewfinder window. The top cover can now be lifted off.

When putting the camera back together, make sure the frame line selector dial engages the lever inside, and that the meter remains with the orange f/2.8 lined up with the meter needle.
