Hi,
I think I posted this same question in a different area, but I am new. My questions: I ordered a Canon 7 body from KEH.
I have a Fed and a Zorki, so I have a Jupiter 8 lens and an Industar 61 lens. Will they work ok on the Canon 7?
I heard or read somewhere that some Jupiter lenses will not work on the Canon 7. I do not want to damage it. Your input will be appreciated. Also any lens suggestions will be good.
Thanks in advance.

I think that all 39mm screw mounts will mount with no problem. I have the 7s and even the J-12 mounts well. When I first tried it I checked it carefully with the back open and the shutter speed set to B ( or you can also set at T) and mounted it carefully and there was plenty of room to spare. The J-8 is a lovely lens to use with the 7. Likewise the I -61.
Good luck.

Several early 50mm lenses of the Canon and Serenar name can be unlocked and recessed partway into the camera body for storage. I never use these collapsible lenses on any but the original, pre-V bodies anyway. But I can verify that the 50mm f/1.9 Serenar will not recess into the body of a Canon P or 7 due to more close-fitting baffles in the newer bodies.

Put your Jupiter 8 on it & enjoy. The Canon 7 is an excellent camera that is vastly underrated due to it's (very real but survivable) foibles. A newer (black) Jupiter 12 would fit on the one I had and made for an excellent combination as well.

Enjoy!

What are the foibles? I have one and it seems nice - but the meter is wonky....

The meter is one of the other principal foibles. I have a 7 as well, and the meter is OK for low light, but doesn't register bright light well, resulting in overexposure.

Of course, with the 50mm 0.95 lens attached, you can overlook most all foibles.

I have a 7 and use a Jupiter 8 on it. As for foibles, my meter works fine in daylight at the low light setting. But we should recognize that many selenium meters of that vintage are defective one way or another. I bought expecting that. It's a very nice piece of equipment. Dave

I only use mine with the 0.95, so I forgot about the lack of a hotshoe!

I bought mine with meter not working, but then one day it was fine - and has been since. I have a 7s I never use, the meter on it doesn't work at all. I keep meaning to send it for repair, since I like the looks better than the 7.

Dave,
On photo.net someone said that this J-8 needed to be shimmed on the canon 7 in order to get good focus.
Have you ever heard of this or experienced any problems with accurate focus with this set up?
Thanks, gdaddy

I never had a J8 that needed shimming. J3, yes, but the F2 max on the J8 will cover the sins of KMZ... 😉

As for the foibles, they've been mostly covered above. The only other one I'd add is the location of & style of the PC flash connector. I use flash just often enough for that to be a pain for me.
