canon 7 yellowish halo around rangefinder patch

I don't know if others have this problem but my Canon 7 shows a yellowish halo around the rangefinder patch which is irritating. It doesn't interfere with focusing but is very distracting. Can it be resolved by cleaning or is it a sign of the balsam unsticking inside the viewfinder elements? Thanks

I believe that's just part of how the RF/VF works. When you look into the VF from a little further away and slowly bring it closer to your eye, you'll see that it's something on an angled surface in there. Part of how the RF patch is projected into the viewfinder I think.

What I find more irritating about the 7's rangefinder is how the RF patch reads very different distances on its left and ride side. Have you noticed that on yours, too? It's like 8cm difference between where the extreme left and right edges indicate correct focus at minimum focus distance.

I have not noticed a difference in distance perception in the rangefinder but all in all I must say the rangefinder patch is one of the weak points in the 7 a correction which could have made it an otherwise excellent finder. It wasn't until the Cosina folks came out with the Bessa that Japanese mfg came close to Leica in ease of focusing the rangefinder.
