Canon 7

I've been following this jiri_e guy for some time. He seems to have an endless supply of Canon RF-stuff. Where does it all come from?

He's in Japan, it seems the populace bought and retained many, many of their own home-manufactured gear. As digital cameras become more available, cheaper and "better," the old stuff gets sold, I guess. Older photograpghers shuffling off their mortal coils.... the survivors sell the old cameras.

I have communicated with him, a nice gentleman, and he says he goes out scouting about for used Canon gear. He is scrupulously honest about the condition of the gear to the point you'd think he was negotiating for a lower price. If you send him an email, telling him what you're looking for, he will (or he did, for me) contact you with a firm price he would ask for the item. Usually reasonable.

A vote for KEH. They rate their cameras conservatively, so $215 for an Exc grade should be in beautiful condition and fully functional. If it's not, KEH has a liberal, no questions asked, return policy. Good folks to deal w/. The Canon 7 is a nice camera -- a poor man's M4.

My 7 is one of those KEH EXC grade ones for $215 I bought to use the 50 .95. The only small problem with the camera was the wrinkle in the curtain which I read it common. Doesn't affect shooting or images. The body is very nice--close to mint, and the meter works, though I use my VCII anyway.

You can definitely trust Jiri. Recently received a near mint Canon P from him. Very precise and honest description of the item. If he says it's very nice cosmetically and mecanically, it really is.

So keep us updated. Love to hear good news. A cheap Canon 7 is something that makes my day, even it wasn't me who got the bargain.

I still have to pop the top and see if I can fix the film counter on my $100 Canon 7. Otherwise, all works. That was a Bargain.

I have one for sale. It works good, but has minor (I think) issues. let me know if you are interested via PM and I'll let you know details. I had it listed in classifieds here a lil while back in trade section, but will consider sale too.

The Canon 7 (and Canon P) often have wrinkled shutter curtains. Usually, the shutters work just fine. You've got a fine camera -- built like a tank, nice vf. Congrats!

I bought a bargain one from KEH for $160, the meter was supposedly not working. I got it and noticed weeks later that the meter worked fine. It is in excellent condition with no dents, you have to look close to see any wear.

I have another that is being CLA'd by DAG now - it is truly like new with an excellent meter.

I can recommend KEH.
