Canon 8400F

Does anybody here have experiences with the Canon 8400F flatbed scanners?

I was thinking about getting a Minolta DualScan IV for a while, but since I have started shooting a lot more MF negs in my TLRs and folders, I need something with MF capability (which the Minolta does not have). For MF I currently have an ancient UMAX flatbed that is not in best shape any longer (and has an official 1200 dpi maximum - so, in reality, probably around 600 dpi).

Forum member 'hoot' has started to do 'wet scanning', and is geting very good results, but his Epson 4990 (and the comparable 4870, Canon 9900 and 9950F) are a bit outside of my price range (below 250 Euros - the 4990 is over 400 here!).

I did some research, and the Cann 8400F (available for about 160 Euros new) seems like a good option - do we have any users here on the forum here that can confirm these? Any recommendations for other scanners in that price range?

Thanks,

Roman

Yes, that's another option I was thinking about, but I just found a good offer for the Canon, that's why I'm asking.

I have an 8400F and have been pretty pleased with it. All the photos in my gallery were scanned from negatives. Maybe not "professional" quality but certainly good enough for me. It's pretty slow when scanning at higher resolutions but that's not a problem for me. Very good for medium format. I paid about $128US. For that price I think this scanner is hard to beat. I'd recommend it.
