canon 85mm f/2

You can always use a black marker and "fill" in the scratch. It will reduce the chance of straylight scattering and flaring. It does slow down the lens a bit, but unless the scratch or chip is really big, it wont make a difference (instead of a f2 it might be a f2.0001).
 
Why not to try make an exchange, in a proper serious shop, from your Elmarit 90/2.8 to a Summicron 90/2 TS? OK, the TS is a very big and heavy lens, but is a very excellent performer, that i own.
As alternative, i suggest to buy a Nikkor 85/2 in LTM mount; is an excellent performer, that i use with my old Leica M3 or M2.

What is a TS ?
Well, for one, we don't have any proper serious shops around here...
Second, I don't know how good and how heavyi s the cron .

The nikkor ltm seemed a good option, but as stated, it should be quite the same as the canon in term of performance.
 
Note that the Nikkor is Sonnar based, while the Canon double Gauss.

That is a rare lens you got there, Michael and for a good price (the black 1.9 usually goes for US 500 and up). It also will fit your 35/1.5 perfectly (and use the same filter).

I really had no idea it was that rare! I bought it because the premium for the light weight seemed right to me...

How is the double-guauss different from the sonnar design?

Double Gauss lenses are symmetric, larger, and sharper corner to corner. Sonnar designs are usually better for portraits due to emphasis of picture center, but at 85mm you can use the Canon very well for portraits, too.

I guess the proper hood would be the T-50, right?
