Canon A-1 Timer Problem

I got a Canon A-1 last week. Everything seems to be working properly except for the timer.
I wind the camera, set the switch to 2 or 10, and when I press the shutter the camera fires normally.
Any suggestions on how to get the timer working??

Old electronics and old clockwork mechanism can fail over time. You could use an accessory timer (screw-in ones) to work around it. Or, you could try to repair.

Since it sounds like you are operating it correctly I'm thinking the switch isn't recognizing it's set to 2 or 10 but thinks it's on A. A repair job I think.
