Hi all,

Well after about two weeks of ownership and the purchase of two
lenses a old style EF 50mm f1.8 with metal mount and a new EF
28mm f2.8 IS, I'm getting some great result's with as Canon now
calls it a dinosaur. It's a big camera but worth it.

Very pricey when new, I bought a 1d (not an s) when I first started working for myself 12 years ago £4000 that's £1000 per megapixel !
The great thing about the old 1d and 1ds is the autofocus I reckon canon didn't get back on track with the focus until the 1dx.
Enjoy the camera.

The 1Ds was my primary work camera for quite awhile and it is a very reliable workhorse. I believe Canon will still service and adjust them. I sold it a few years ago for a 1Ds MkII, which is another astounding workhorse. I finally sold the 1Ds MkII after buying the M9 and have never regretted that change.

The older pro cameras are still great shooters. Limited ISO, but even the old Nikon D1X I have does an amazing lot with 4 mp. The Canon 1DS still shoots fine photos.

Had one for some weeks and tested it, great photos and liked it, especially because so near to the EOS 1V. See my comparison here: http://walterulreich.blogspot.com/2014/11/canon-eos-analog-and-ditital.html.

After some weeks I found an EOS 1Ds III for a very good price and could not resist, more ISO, more megapixel and even works with Eos Utility! And the same heavy and reliably workhorse. Love it and picture quality it at the same level as my more modern EOS 5D III.

With kind regards,
Walter

A Canon 1D is much more interesting a camera as it had a CCD sensor!

The 1Ds is a great camera. A bit clunky by today's standards, but it offers everything a 1-series camera stands for: good AF, great build and weather sealing to boot. Biggest downside imho is the lack of USB as you need to set some settings with a computer and the Firewire drivers aren't available for Vista/7/8 or newer.

Here some pictures taken with the 1Ds:

@RattyMouse: I don't know why a 1D is more interesting then the 1Ds just because of sensor technology. I like the colors from the 1Ds.

@Range-rover: take a look at the 85/1.8 (or almost identical 100/2) it isn't flawless, but it is hard to beat for that price.

I own a 1Ds MkII... An absolute beast but it get's the results I want.

To me it's the perfect size for a DSLR and the battery life is extraordinary even using the original batteries.
These pro bodies are the ones to go for. They seem almost bomb proof.
