Great images, flawless technique enhanced by great "seeing".
Some of you have gone to many other cameras.
Strangely the work here often far superior.
I was donated over a period or bought for almost nothing,
some Canon AE-1P,Av-1 and AE-! and lenses.
The results showed the age of my Leica lenses..

It is not the camera that makes an image. Of course, you know this fact.
I started "real photography" with Canon FD camera and lens. Canon AE-1 with Canon 50/1.8 FD.

Bought brand new on April 1st 1976. Still have it, though it's in real need of a CLA.

There are many FD lemses listed at ebay that are priced below $300.
For $200:
24/2.8 is a clasic
50/1.4 is a classic

KEH also has a selection of FD lenses that come in at or below $200. Some of the real gems are the breach lock mount - a bit fiddly till you get used to them, but among the very best ever made for black and white film photography.

This reminds me -- and I could be remembering incorrectly -- of a photo in Canon's lens guide from back in the FD days. I'll have to dig it out later to see.

With a little bit of luck you can also get a 55mm f1.2 or a 50mm f1.2.
The old 35mm f2 with concave front element is also a classic, a lot of people avoid that because it's radioactive, but I'm very happy with it...the little 35-105 zoom with aspherical element is dirty cheap, also for that money you can get a 80-200L or a 100-300L, they have a stellar reputation.

Like many, my first real camera was a Canon FT.
Just seemed more solid than the comparable competition---Pentax Spotmatic, Minolta 101, Nikkormat.
At one point I bought the 80-300mm f5 zoom reasoning (and rationalizing)
"Sally, it's a good idea, and really, it is cheaper than an 85, 135, 200 and 300 together. See, I'm actually saving us money"
I didn't know at the time that it was a huge, heavy pain to carry and essentially an f8 lens in practice. Even at 8 not too wonderful.
But that body with 28, 50 and the then very popular 135 were just about perfect for the time and none too shabby today, either.

Like this. I just bought a pristine 35/2.8 FDn. I haven't used it yet & don't see much posted about this lens. The f2 version seems more popular, plus more pricey. Right now my money is tight but wanted to add the 35 to shoot a project. Seeing your example I feel quite satisfied.Since my last post on this thread, I've added a couple more Canon FD lenses to my collection. I have a 35mm f2.8 FDn and a 100mm f2.8 FDn. A couple weeks ago, I used the Canon A-1 with the 35mm, 50mm, and 100mm lenses to photograph the annual Three Rivers Festival in downtown Fort Wayne. The Canon gear worked great for this kind of 'street photography'! I have a ton of film to scan, but here's a couple of photos:
Yes, this kid who is young enough to ride in a baby stroller is playing a game on a smartphone! I used the 35mm f2.8 FDn lens and Tmax 400 film.

I think you'll like it. Mine is a good, sharp lens. The only real complaint i have is that its construction is cheap and plasticky, but it works well.
I shot these with the 35/2.8 FDn lens, too.

Nice examples Chris. I don't mind the construction of the newer FD lenses. I have the 50/1.4 & 28/2.8 in the older breech mount & that 50 is a heavy lens. I envy your 50/1.4 FDn. Never get rid of it if you don't have to.
