Hi All,

I have several Canon viewfinders (25mm, 135mm, and a Zoom 85-135mm) that have the parallax-adjusting ball, which works automatically with the VT, as you focus. Very nice, but they don't adjust subject framing, when used on my 7, 7S, and P bodies. They revert to closest-focusing mode only. In a pinch, I have resorted to pushing the spring-loaded finder upwards, with my fingers, when final framing with this combo. Not particularly precise.

Canon's answer is the "Finder Coupler", which couples the older style VT finders to the newer style P-type bodies. There is a lever which allows you to set the correct distance and framing. These adapters are hard to find, as you can imagine. I'm delighted to have this one, I think I got a great deal.

Here is what I just won. Looks a little dirty, but should clean up. Much cheaper than buying additional finders:

Anybody here had any experience with these parallax adapters?

No locking level -- the knob at the back adjusts the parallax; the little button up front moves up and down, which mimics the auto-parallax on the Canon V, VI, and L series cameras.

OK Thanks for that!

I'm looking forward to receiving it. Good to know they forsaw the need for backwards compatability

Here is the "Canon Finder Coupler" listed (on page 18) in this 1958-dated "Canon Lenses" brochure. So it appears to be an accessory which pretty much matches the vintage of my later, black Canon RF lenses:

So, if I want to put my 25mm VT viewfinder on my Canon 7, I think I can combine the "Canon Accessory Coupler" and the "Canon Finder Coupler" and get fairly accurate framing, at least as accurate as the 25mm finder would be, I hope. I will test all this together, when I receive the unit.

And, here is the expensive alternative, with parallax compensation for the Canon P:

The "Finder Coupler" is Here.

Just arrived today from the UK. Now I can put my 25mm VT Finder on my P, 7S and 7 bodies, as well as VT, and have dial-in parallax and distance correction.

It does raise the finder up a bit, I will make some critical tests ASAP. My guess is that Canon would have thought of that, and compensated in the tilt aspect? Anyway, time will tell. Definately better with it, than without it, on these other bodies.

Glad to have this hard to find item!

Two New Canon "VT Style" Viewfinders just arrived here. Both are the "Brightline" type, one is a 50mm, the other, 85mm. With the parallax-adjusting ball mechanism that engages the "ball-bearing" sticking out the the top of the VT camera body accessory shoe.

With the new Parallax-adjusting Canon Finder Coupler, I can use these two new VT finders on my 7, 7S, and P. Niiiice.

A very handy find. I have a bit of a passion for accessory finders - it would be possible to have an entire collecting career based just on these alone. (SAD I know!) A few years back I saw a very nice Canon multi-finder (zoomfinder, they call it) on ebay and bought it. When it arrived it was the sort of finder you mention in your post. I must admit I would love to find one of these adapters since as you say this type of accessory finder is very difficult to use when not mounted on the right camera body.
