On the other hand, I'd rather have 2.8 with image stabilization than 2.0 without. Given the known limitations of tiny-sensor digicams, this looks like a nice release. Should be very useable up to iso200, maybe even 400. Beyond that you're better off looking at a digi with a larger sensor: 4/3 or APS-C size. I find I can get remarkable use out of my little Canon SD800 IS at iso80 because of the stabilization.

>>f2 vs. f2.8 make no difference with the tiny sensor.
In what sense? It still admits twice as much light, does it not?
OK, that was unclear. I thought about DOF. With the tiny sensor you'll get almost unlimited DOF - with either f2 or f2.8 - unless you focus very close.
Oh how I hate those tiny sensors: too much noise, little DR and no way to transform the busy background into nice bokeh. There is only one thing I hate even more.. Thats bulky SLRs :bang:
Of course you are right. It makes a one stop difference in respect to the exposure. It will save you from the noise at ISO400 (subsitituted by the noise at ISO200) or from a blurry picture due camara shake (subsitituted by a soft picture due to camera shake) when you have light that is just one stop to dim.

I hope the new Samsung venture proposed for release in 2010 comes off because that will be a serious challenge to these types of near enough efforts from the likes of Canon and Sigma etc! http://www.amateurphotographer.co.u...tal_camera_system_on_the_way_news_266661.html
Sounds promising. This could be the right type of thing for me. On the other hand... any one tell me what this "[..] extensive experience in lens manufacturing from other areas of Samsung's business [..]" is?

The f/2 lens and the swing/tilt LCD are features that I like in my two Canon G5 cameras. Why Canon chose to eliminate these features in its more recent models in the G series puzzles me.
Absolutely agree with you. I don't use my G5 that much these days, but even if I used it more I am not tempted to 'upgrade' it- although higher ISO performance would be nice.

Let's see what develops from micro four thirds, the Lumix G1 is close to what I'm looking for.
