Canon GIII QL on the Bay

the black whim in all of us ...

the black whim in all of us ...

I got a kick out of reading this as I am the one who brought this camera on evilbay . I assure you I am a regular guy and a "user" , not a collector . I have 3 GIII 's now and I love them . The aforementioned black one was a terrible whim that I fulfilled ... I have seen them offered $300 to $400 and I wouldn't pay that much , honestly . The Canonet has a dent ding on the back that you feel more then see but it is in good working order ; I have to reseal it though . Gosh , I'm embarrassed but happy ; my chrome ones were allot more reasonable . It looks so nice next to my black Nikon FE's ... but that's another forum .

Good Catch and DIRT CHEAP

Good Catch and DIRT CHEAP

The last one I saw on eBay went for $550. I've been tracking the black body Canon GIII, Minolta SII and Konica RFs.

In good condition I have seen at least a half dozen in the last year to 18 month bring between $450 and $600.

Why the shock when a camera in high demand and very usable brings a high price.

You made a killer purchase John. If you have 3 of these all black, and in good condition, I'd say your sitting on $1500 worth of merchandise.

I sold one about five years ago for $430 on eBay.

Just recently I've discovered that my dads camera the he took traveling to Europe was a black Canon GIII. I managed to find it in a closet in our house and I was pleasantly surprised to find that is completely mint! Not one mark on it anywhere! Even the black ever ready case barely has any cracks in the leather. Pretty lucky find I'd say. As attractive as those prices are to sell, I think I'm going to hold onto it and get some good use out of it!

That sounds like a wonderful camera. Just check the foam seals before use as they will almost certainly be degrading with the pasage of time. I re-sealed mine today (an ebay purchase) and I will be trying it out shortly. Not the easiest of cameras to re-seal but not so hard once you get to it..

Well, I got a silver QL19 in perfect condition for 6.50€ (+ 6.90€ shipping) from ebay, two weeks ago, as the only bidder. So there still are more affordable ways to get a user GIII, if you can do with the plain finish...

I just put my beater Canonet QL17 GIII for sale on a local camera forum for the equivalent of US$30++. It's a nice, compact package with fast and decent optics, but my copy arrived with a stiff shutter speed ring, a faded RF patch and light marks on the front element.

I think you paid a decent price for the camera, if it comes in good working condition. Hopefully its value will continue to appreciate.
