i'm not sure if this trader sells anything of its stuff for the price he asks - but just in case he did, I should have started collecting CANON a few years *before* Peter Dechert wrote his book...

have a nice Sunday, Frank

Ah, him. Still it's an interesting little camera. The Zunow 35/1.7 for $4,858.00 (odd price. Conversion from Euros I suppose) is entertaining as well.

I've heard some less than complimentary comments about the differences between described and actual quality for this seller, under his several aliases.

There's a real "no reserve" auction for a MUCH nicer specimen going on at eBay item 7553745889. With a 50/2 Nikkor, however. This one will NOT go cheaply, $3651 with two hours to go. I suspect the seller (a used record store handling a batch of cameras) is surprised as all hell! All the other cameras they are selling are most pedestrian.

"Ma, we done it, we hit the lottery! Pack up the kid and leave the dog at the neighbor's, we are go'in to the big city this weekend!" 🙂

I spotted a 1950s LTM Nokton which sold for over $3,000 and thought the same thing. The seller added to the description, "we don't know much about cameras, or what this mounts on, but it looks good, no reserve".

A good ebay surprise for the seller. That is allowed too.

No one will top Nikon buyers. For the 538th Nikon Rangefinders they would ask for 20.000 USD. This one is even older - 1936-37 something... 🙂

cheers, Frank

Nikon Collectors are the Craziest People in this business.

Some Crazier than others. I love my Nikons, but I just could not see paying 20K for a Nikon I. I jumped at the two M's for $500 for the pair.

Canon Hansa #548 again, just for 14.279 USD...

Sounds as if the USD has weakened about 10% against the EUR since the October listing.

There is a similar NY-based Nikon seller who has very high starting prices. Never seems to sell anything but re-lists every few weeks or so.

I guess these sellers are members of the "greater fool" school of marketing! 😀

These sellers, maybe that should be in quotes, are possibly just trolling for buyers. This type of "sale" might bring in a reply from an owner of one of the cameras, or something similar, for example. The listing fee becomes pretty cheap advertising, if a sale or a good buy comes as a result.

When the NY guys are doing it, there is always a reason. And money is definitely in there someplace. Some of the Europeans are adopting the same methods, or maybe they invented them first 😀 😀

Ebay is not just a huge flea market, it's a well coreographed (sp?) dance..
