I bet it is the same hood, they just changed the type when they discontinued the 1.9 lens.

It's not quite the same-it's wider and probably doesn't vignette on the later 35's. It also looks a little shallower.

It also went for crazy money, I suspect because it has unusual engraving on it. The top four bidders are all known Canon collectors.

last time i saw the SAME hood without case went for only 40 dollars or so on that bay a few months before

I got one on eBay no more than two months ago for about $25 (no case). I remember one going for between $35 and $40 dollars last year; my high bid then was in the low $30s, which I thought was plenty high enough.

I got mine in 2003 for $29.99 (no case) and $26.00 (with case) on eBay.
But one went for $70 that year along with 5 Walz series VI filters.
Remember that not only the number of rows of engraving counts, but the relative order of the speed and focal length for each lens counts.
